Right heres the flow of the story......i was using the computer the other day when it restarted itself and smoke started to come out of the front of the computer :(

Now i originally thought it was the PSU as there was a whirring noise coming from the PSU afterwards. Now i have replaced the PSU but nothing seems to be working  The light on the motherboard is on but other than that nothing. Im wondering whether it could be the case of the computer..........? E.g. the power button as that was where the smoke was first coming from! I opened the front up earlier on only to find the filter covered in dust :(

Now im confused as to which part of the computer is broken.....? The light on the motherboard suggests that its fine.

The lights may be on, but it may still be broken I'm afraid. Is there any visable burn damage on any of the components? Do you have any other machine where you can test each component in turn? Which PSU was it?

It was the one that come supplied with the Antec Sonata II case. Im hoping all the HDD, graphics card is all fine so i would only have to replace the CPU, RAM and motherboard.

It would be very strange for an Antec PSU to take out other components when it dies. But in this case that seems to have happened, but it should only be limited to the main components, but who knows? :(

How do you know that it would have taken everything away with it.........? Does that mean that my graphics card, hdd as well would have died?

Cannot answer without testing

I never said that, re read my post (although I may have not been clear). As the poster above me says, the only thing you can do is test them.
