Hi All,

i have a 7 -10 year old PC that i am using, i know everyone is going to say why have you not got a new one. Answer = sky high cost atm.

I was hoping to hold out till late next year but my PC is deciding other wise by freezing and sometimes blue screening and restarting.

so far it has happened mostly when using Chrome / YouTube but sometimes just out of the blue it locks up.
does anyone know what i can do to try to fix this. i really don't want to get a new rig when prices are extreme and components in short supply.

Thanks for your help on this, its much apprciated! let me know if you want a list of my components to help diagnose

Could be anything from corrupted software/drivers to some component failing.
For example if Youtube causes that it could be down to graphics drivers or hardware struggling.

Assuming you're going to assemble your next PC yourself, PSU could be updated now.
Because if it was standard cheap PSU, that's more years than it was designed to work.

i already have a seasonic 850 in this one. that is actually the newest component as the last bequiet one died a few years ago.

tbh i think i might of sorted it. famous last words but i spent 20 mins getting rid of all the windows bloatware. removed all sorts of crap including one drive. none of which i ever use.
Computer now seems way way faster and feels more stable. hoping it just had to much usless stuff running in the background. will see.

cheers for your reply though :)

No matter what's advertised, useless background crapware is never good thing for stability.

Same for lots of "just in case it's needed" automatically starting up things.
In HDD era that might have been usefull to speed things up later, but with SSDs that's no excuse.

Crashed again today, but its much less than before,
Can anyone recommend a free driver updating software that can look at all my drivers and update any that are out of date.
will be a pain doing this one by one. thanks

When was the last time you clean the PC? Could be overheating due to the dust it collected and needs a good clean.

about 6 months ago, i keep it clean. tbh i think my GTX 780 card is nearing its end of life, but not sure its that runs pretty hot.

its been fine today removed even more bloatcrap yesterday, who knew CCleaner could be actually useful. :P

I would be tempted to backup then reinstall windows from scratch.

Might be worth running memtest from a usb stick to check ram stability separately from the os.
