Hi all,

I am building a custom set up for my friend (Budget around £900), he wants to play Skyrim and similar spec games at 1080p, I was just looking for your opinion on this set-up please, so I make sure I haven't made any mistakes!:

i5-2500k 3.3GHz (Sandybridge)
Nvidia GTX 560Ti (Gigabyte, Asus, or Evga) or Sapphire hd 6950 2gb or something different?
Kingston HyperX 3K SSD 120GB
Coolmaster Elite 430
Asus P8Z68-V LX
WD 500GB Caviar Blue HD
Corsair Vengeance 8GB (2x4GB) 1866MHz
OCZ ZS series 650W
Thermaltake Frio Heatpipe

Many thanks in advance for the help.

You should be going for a Z77 motherboard and the i5 -3570k, you will get all the latest feature and Approx 10% faster than the 2500k.

Cheers, I was having trouble with the processors, it's been a couple of years since I've built a system and then intel family seems to have moved forward very quickly!

The 7850 is about the best for the money, if you can fit it in your budget.

Do you have £900 for a complete system or just the base ?

Ok awesome thanks, so updated specs:

Intel Core i5 3570K
Sapphire HD 7850 OC Edition 2GB
Kingston HyperX 3K SSD 120GB
Coolmaster Elite 430
Gigabyte GA-Z77-D3H
WD 500GB Caviar Blue HD
Corsair Vengeance 8GB (2x4GB) 1600MHz
OCZ ZS series 650W
Thermaltake Frio Heatpipe

Can save £20 using the M4 (very good drive). Gives money towards 1TB drive / case. You don't need uber write speeds for SSDs, it would be the M4 128, or the SanDisk Extreme which has good perforamnce, and is dirt cheap.

The Frio is loud, expensive and imo if you have a budget, can get away with a £30 cooler (my favorite is the True Spirit 120, on pre-order, loads of others who will do 4.2GHz overclock easy).

The case is OK, comes with only one fan, and lacks some dust filters, but for the price, it's got to be the Zalman Z9+ (£41).

Looks alright to me. Have the 2500k (the 3570k didn't exist at the time :) and a 2600k different machine). Sensible seperation of money to give reasonable all round performance wrt. gaming based machine. Mine does anything and everything (hence the 2600k).

Forgot to say I have a Z9+, great case for the money, I thought it came with more than one fan though, don't remember adding that many to mine, although it was a while ago.
