Hi,

Over the last few nights, my computer has been coming out of hibernation at 4am, and for what reason, I have no idea. I've checked task scheduler and the event log and can't see why it's doing it.

Can anyone tell me how I can find out why it is coming out of hibernation in the middle of the night?

Many thanks.

I had this and it was Acronis. After I formatted and reinstalled Vista it went away (I've stopped using Acronis, just set up a manual trf once per week now).

However in looking for the answer, another solution I came across was Windows Update. Check the times that it's scheduled to look for new updates. Of course it should do its business then go back to sleep, but for some reason it doesn't seem to be working that way.

I never suspected Windows Update since it's never done this before. But when I've opened it up it says the last check was at 4:02am LOL

windows update might just check everytime the pc starts / comes out of hibernate and not be the underlying reason it comes out... maybe :)

Well that's what I thought... since it has never woken up to do a Windows update before. But how the heck do I fathom out what it is that is waking the PC?

What is your OS? If it has Media Center installed this can wake machines randomly to download program guide updates. I know my HTPC wakes up randomly in the middle of the night for a min or 2 then goes back to sleep.

Vista Ultimate and I did just install a USB TV tuner last weekend so there is guide data. How do I change when it downloads guide data?

I dont know if you can. Does it bother you? It should wake for a few mins at most then fall back to sleep.
Yes it wakes me and my partner and as it's coming out of hibernation it would be an hour before it went to sleep. The screen comes on as does the bright blue power led which is plenty enough to illuminate the entire room! Looks like I'm going to have to reinstall Windows to get rid of this... What a massive pain in the backside.
