Morning Gang,

I am writing to you today as I am having a really frustrating Computer problem and looking for Potential Solutions as I am at the end of my tether L

Im relatively savvy with computers been my job for 10 years and Have built many before in the past, just for the sake of saying.

My current issue is as follows, I can be playing a game for say Player un knowns battlegrounds, and randomly, without any warning, the computer completely shuts off. Black screens no errors no sounds all the lights inside the case power down the pump the cpu the graphics just complete shut off, and unless I pull my plug out of the back and plug it back in like 10 seconds later it wont turn back on.

Before the Whole PSU conundrum falls through I must say, I have run stress tests, Prime 95 and furmark at the same time, for 30 minutes, with no errors, no crashes no stalls, could even watch youtube at same time.

As for the system, currently it is as below

Ryzen 1700 stock 3 ghz have run stable at 3.9 crashes in both instances

16gb Corsair LPX ddr4 ram 2x8 running at stock and oc at 2667 – crashes in both instances

GTX 1080 Msi gaming x, never touched clocks, crashes

Msi tomahawk b350 motherboard

Psu – currently inside the system is a Delta 1100w as it powers my alienware area 51 alx case and came with it, I checked the PSU beforehand all rails run smoothly, all cables look clean and the psu didn’t look like it has been run for much before hand,

Also… tried my corsair 750w PSU that ran my old 4690 system without failure, also crashes…

I have ran benchmarks that have been suggested by different forums and overclockers alike, aida 64 with checking the stability and system stats, all 5v rails and 12 rails never moved or spiked like some I have seen at 17v :/

Its driving me mad simply because there is no warnings, Temps are never high as the processor is water-cooled and at stock speed doesn’t go higher than 48 on stress test, GFX hits like 70 but that’s not an issue, just destroys my computer power off…

Ive been tempted to say it’s a ryzen issue, and throwing it in the bin and buying intel again, But thougth I would come here and seek advice properly. If anyone has anything They want me to try ill give it a go when im back home, but I have tried most things,

Swapping PSU – done

Overclock and stock clock (not tried underclock but why would anyone?)

Removed thermal pastes and re applied

P.s it doesnt always happened, on saturdays sessions, first time i loaded into PUBG it crashes at jumping off the plane, restarted then played 3/4 games perfectly fine then crashed again

Many thanks for reading

Damon, did you use to work for Ramesys by any chance? If so, I'd wager you will recognise my username ;)

In all honesty it does sound like a PSU problem, but the fact you have the same fault on two different PSU's would render that unlikely. IF It were me I would try two things.

First, uninstall your graphics driver completely, reboot, and re-install using the clean install option so it doesn't keep your settings. Unlikely, but worth a shot if you haven't already.

Second, I would try taking your PC out of the case and run it on the motherboard box. I wonder if you have a short that's only just making contact as things start heating up. Could be a loose screw that just clips a fractionally expanding component.

Haha yes binnsy I know who you are ;), been a while lol...

Its a tricky one for sure. Think the driver thing would be a wise shout for now. jsut for easiest to do as the wiring for the case is a nightmare which would link in with the second thing to try...

Ill give them a go later and let you know. Be nice to catch up too buddy...

As another thought, is this built inside that ALX case with the automated vents / lighting etc? If so could it possibly be those conflicting now you aren't using an Alienware board that understands them all? If you have a method to disconnect all those extras so that it's more like a normal PC in a normal case that would probably replicate half of taking it out of the case.

And yea, sounds like a plan, I'll ping you a message on the old book of face later :)

Its a similar case its the big brother to the one you saw, and yes i can disconnect the power to the MIO secondry board to remove all the system lighting and retry - problems is I dont know how to replicate the issue, as it was random on PUBG

Another game it crahed on was final fantasy online, under direct x 11, all cutscences would crash but game play is fine... but when running direct x 9c it works flawlessly for hours and nothing

But the stress tests what gets me just run for house and nothing so must be driver possibly ?

It definitely sounds like a power issue, despite swapping of PSUs.

Update BIOS on motherboard?
Could be a faulty power regulator on the motherboard
Are you using the same kettle power lead?
Are you using a power extension or same power socket in the house?

Suppose I never thought abotu the above, I could try a different kettle lead, as it was the same one yes, and its in a extension but its close enough to the wall to try the actual outlet as I have 3 spare...

Im thinknig possibly motherboard, its not been the best and seems to not want to be compatible with any of my ram timings despite it being officially supported...

It could well be, and probably is the motherboard but if you eliminate the above, at least you can be as sure as possible in your own mind that you've checked everything else.

After heating Fermistor Nvidia has used drivers to detect at least Furmark automatically throttling card so games could actually cause worser load spikes.

I had these exact symptons with my Asus motherboard, so did a lot
of people on the Asus forums.

3 months later, Asus released an updated bios, and the problem went away.

Make sure your on the latest bios, and check the MSi fourms as well.

Morning Guys, quick update for yall, Changed the Kettle lead, changed the plug socket, DDU the driver in safe mode, obviously re installed the driver, I even used 2 separate cables for my graphics card instead of the single one,

Manged to play 5~ games of PUBG set to ultra with no crashes other than me pressed my alt f4 hotkey...
Ran Heaven stress test for a good half hour or so with no crash
Ran 3d mark pro edition for 30 minutes no crash

Not sure if the problem is over just for the fact it was random on saturday night but I am feeling hopeful, however Cause i changed it all over at once I dont yet know what could have been causing it.

@EsaT Understandable Nvidia shaft there drivers any suggested bench or stress tests that can just blow it up for me?

@drex69 I am keeping it up to date best I can, even tried one of there beta just Incase, as I am awaiting some memory optimizations to finally run my ram at full whack

But so far thanks for the help @BinnsY @HoneyBadger Will need to keep testing...
