Hello,

My Computer crashes on Call of Duty 4 and Modern Warfare 3 within around 10 minutes of game play. I know for a fact the computer should be capable of these games easily. I currently use a 450w power supply for my PC and would like to know whether there may be a lack of power towards it and if it is a major factor in this problem constantly occurring. I would also like to know if I should purchase a power supply of greater wattage. And if this isn't a factor, why my computer constantly crashes on this and other games such as Battlefield: Bad Company 2.

Thanks.

has this only started happening recently?
have u ever played these games on your rig before without crashing?
what are the cpu/gpu temps like?
what spec is ur rig?
any bad sectors in your hdd?
tried reinstalling the game yet?
when you say crash? do you mean bsod/unresponsive/autorestart/full power off?

The problem used to be on/off with this CoD and BF:BC2. It NEVER occurred with games such as the Batman series and the Assassin's Creed series in High settings. When I play games my GPU temperatures reach 90+, My CPU temperatures I believe reach 75+, I can't remember.
Gigabyte EG43M-S2H // Intel Q8200 @ 2.33Ghz
XFX ATI Radeon HD 4870 512MB // Corsair 4GB DDR2 RAM
465GB HDD // Sumvision 450w PSU
No bad sectors on my HDD that I'm aware of. Ive reinstalled the game twice, once included me reformatting my PC.
And when I say crash I mean it becomes unresponsive and the game freezes. So I am forced to restart or switch off my PC manually.

it may be, but gpu temps could also be a cause...and its easier to test it by blowing out the dust from the gpu fan ;p
450w is a bit anaemic to run a quad core + 4870 though, i must say...

could be gpu ram overheating too,i had similar thing happen in dead island and cod world at war

only those two games would freeze/crash pc,i tested by downclocking memory freq in ccc by 25mhz and no more crashes,id test with 50-100mhz downclock on memory

So if removal of dust comes from little to no avail, I should definitely replace my PSU? Because I've had this problem with CoD/Battlefield before, and I would regularly remove dust, I just never bothered as much then because I rarely ever played.

Tried it, died in >5 minutes.

I bet you it's that damn punkbuster and realtek issue. Google it, hundreds of threads about it.

I had to disable everything with realtek on my mobo and delete the drivers to stop this from happening.

if after removing the dust and ur gpu temp is around 70-85c and it still crashes, then its likely it isnt the gpu's fault, although it may still be the gpu ram as wazza says

and if your psu is old say 3+ years, it cant deliver the same amount of juice as it would when it was new, so signs point towards a problem with the psu

disclaimer: but i may be wrong though

ahaha...i just googled it...sounds like u nailed it in one...lolz

I tried the under-clocking the ram to no avail. I'll clean the dust off my GPU by this day and inform you or anyone else of any progress (or not). If I don't get a reply, I'm going to assume my PSU is the issue as I can't recall having unresponsive issues with my prior PSU (which I replaced because it died in a few months). Also, the issues occur on non-PB servers as well.

id get atleast a 600w psu, then if you upgrade in the future you can carry on using it,plus newer components use less juice

No. You need to spend at £50 for a decent 550-650W Psu. Preferably CM, OCZ, XFX, Corsair, to name a few quality brands.

And do yourself a favour and remove the link.
