My computer runs fine until I load up a high graphics game. I can run Counter strike source and Dod no problem.

But if i try and run Crysis 2 or Starcraft 2 my computer locks up after about 2 minutes of being in the game. It completely freezes and I have to fully reset it by holding down the power button.

I have reinstalled the drivers for my 9800gt Graphics card and updated my Bios on my motherboard but to no avail.

Can someone help before I just get ****ed off and buy a new card. :)

get msi afterburner and check temps while u load those games, could be the drivers stopping the card after it reaches a certain degree, tho it never happened to me in my 9800gtx. In my 5770's if i go over 95degrees the game just minimizes with a warning that drivers stopped responding.

after checking temps then you can take it from there.

The problem is is that i cannot monitor the temperatures whilst im playing. Can i get it to record the temperatures till it crashes and automatically save them so i can see the temperatures it recorded when i reboot?

why not? u can have the temps show up on the top left (or whenever is the default setting) so u can monitor realtime while playing

Ok i got it to monitor my temps whilst playing crysis 2. It crashed at 97C. Would you say it is overheating? It idles (ie on desktop) at 53C

Really appreciate the help

Ive never had a problem till three weeks ago. Airflow seems fine. I took it out and cleaned it but to no avail.

What i will do is order an ungraded cooling fan for my card and start from there.

ill upload my full spec sheet. What piece of software do you want me to use to copy and paste my spec up.

I stripped everything down and cleaned everything in my pc. I was able to run crysis 2 for about 10 minutes and tehn it crashed at 91 C :(

Would be helpful if you let us know what model 9800GT and case/case fans set-up you got. You'd have to make sure it is not an airflow problem first, otherwise upgrading the card to something that consume higher power and generate more heat would only make the problem worse...

Im running an Alienware Aurora case. apart from the fans cooling hardware i also have one fan at the back one at the front and one either side blowing air into the case.

My graphics card is a inno3d 9800gt DDR 3 1GB

Override the automatic fan controller and run it at 100% and see if that reduces your temps and stops it from crashing. If that works reduce the fan speed until you find a balance between stability and noise.

Is it still in warranty? If not try taking off cooler and reapply thermal material with something decent. If that doesn't sort it, then time for a new card.

It automatically rises to 100% as the temp increases

If you have any spare thermal paste then you could try taking the heatsink of and replacing the compound (cleaning the old stuff of first) and checking you have got every last bit of dust out. Failing that you could try a new HSF or bite the bullet and get a new card.
