Just built a new system,

CPU = QuadCore Intel Core 2 Quad Q9450
Ram = 4GB Kingston
Mobo = MSI P45 Diamond
GFX = 2 x ATI Radeon 4870 Crossfire Enabled
OS = Windows Vista 64bit

I was running it on XP prior to installing Vista and it worked fine with XP playing games, I did a fresh install, installed all the drivers... but noticed it crashing at first when I watched videos on websites (youtube, gametrailes ect)

Then i tried to install a game to play, but just freezes when I launch it...

I don't know what to do know, ive just grabbed the latest drivers from ATI and still it crashed, I don't even get no error messages, just freezes and i have to turn of a plug to restart it up.

Any ideas ?

I think i may have to go back to XP, which i don't mind doing to be honest, I just wanted to maximise the ram in Vista.

Kind Regards

I think ive narrowed it down to something to do with the sound, sounds daft but when ever a movie clip with sound sometimes it crashes, and the music quality is constantly crackling.

I just launched halflife 2 and again the sound was crackling, turned up the volume and it crashed...

How do i check the bios for the timings ?

Im running the Creative SB X-Fi Xtreme HD Audio Controller PCI that came included with the mother board, and i used the drivers that came with it

Indeed trying to navigate through there products to the correct one is a nightmare, I gave up !

I uninstalled the sound drivers, and ran a game, this time farcry and it crashed on the menu...

I have now uninstalled my GFX drivers, and am going to try and install them again, to see if that resolves it...

Worst case im going back to XP !

Thanks for the help btw

A little update, Im getting there slowly.. just a process of ilimination aint it.

Here's what ive done so far:

Uninstalled sound drivers (still froze in game)
Uninstalled GFX drivers, Downloaded latest from ATI Site (still froze in game)
Turned off crossfire >> Didn't crash !! game ran okay !! no problems !

I haven't reinstalled the sound drivers yet, but i will do this morning, I don't know what to do now, because I have my computer or i thought i did set up correctly, So it seams when crossfire is enabled in the ATI Catalyst control panel, it freezes..

Any suggestions troops ?

I didn't have this problem in XP either ?

Thanks

Im not sure if that is my problem, i have narrowed it down to the crossfire. maybe i should start a new thread in the gfx card area ?

Also, sligtlhy of topic, The email from overclockers goes straight into my spam, and for some reason even when i clicked "not spam" it is still going threre, using gmail.

doing my tree in now, because i have to keep coming back to the thread to see if three is a reply :D oh well
