Ok, This seems to be an intermittant fault, and i havent been able to diagnose it yet

Every so often, all of a sudden an almost deafaning sound is played, hard to describe but its a screeching noise, high pitched like a modem used to make

Then the whole computer locks up, and i have to reboot - i cant think of any reason why it does this, as it happens at random points in the day Oo

Gigabyte GA_965P_DS3 Mobo
E6600 Conroe
2gb GeiL DDR2 Ram

I havent a clue, help please! ;D

Go Start -> Run -> "eventvwr" and check out "System" and "Application" on the left hand side. Look for any errors, especially on "System". It may help shed some further light to help diagnose the problem.

The noise you describe is a Ram fault, i can induce this by changing the ram settings to something stupid in windows and i get the same noise and a lock up, check the volts are ok on the ram, should be 2.1, or +3 in the bios, that might sort it out.
