My plan was to get a Karlby worktop with some Alex drawers but looking at what I have to play with I think drawers are going to take to much space up, I can't do any drilling to the walls for 12 months being as its a new build. I also have a small space I would like to add a worktop so it all blends in. All I have seen when it comes to the Karlby setup is the Alex drawers does anyone have it with legs?

Sorry to sound daft but why no drilling, just due to movement?

I'm renting from a housing association and they have said it makes it easier for them because the flat comes with a 12 month defect warranty, if I start drilling the builders could say the cracks where due to the drilling if any appear.

These are the same height as Alex drawers, I have 1 Alex and 3 Adils on my desk

That's great think I will give those a go. Cheers

Had this setup too, before installing battens on the wall. They are also height adjustable at the foot.
Thanks sounds good to me.

I would build a wardrobe in that space and in your spare room use it as a gaming room.

One problem what spare room, it's a one bedroom flat. I'm not going to be having a wardrobe in the bedroom just outside the bedroom is a big cupboard that is housing a boiler well it's not a boiler it's a heater interface unit, in there i'm going to put up a clothes rail.

oh lol sorry! You could get a custom made desk there plenty room.

Cheers I will have to have a good think what I'm going to do with that space.

Do you have room to put a desk in your living area? Just thinking of how hot the flat will be during the summer. When I lived with my mother in law, my missus would go nuts at me gaming in the evening as my desk was in our bedroom too.

I did think about the living room at first but it's small, bedroom is the only place.

Cheers, well I guess I got no one to moan at me:D

Not yet ;)

Personally, if it were me I would put a smaller desk in your bedroom instead of the beast you have drawn out. I have a 1600mm x 800mm desk if my dedicated office now and that is pretty big. I used to have a 1200 x 600mm desk which was perfect in my old house. I think it will make your bedroom feel bigger without such a large desk in it and you may still be able to get a wardrobe / chest of draws in that space where your blue line is on the wall.

Totally get you making the room look bigger with a smaller desk. how strong are those ikea desks? I hear they are not very strong.

I've not used ikea desks before, but I buy a typical computer type desk. If you google 'Tully II Narrow Rectangular Desk' it should be the first hit. Its £104 with free delivery for the 1200x600. Looks great in white for a modern look. I've had many desks from this place over the years and none have ever fell apart, I have always sold them on as I decided to upgrade in size or change colour.

Here is my old setup with a 27" monitor on it. 1200x600mm desk.

vs my newer 1800 x 800mm (I thought it was 1600mm wide, sorry, I just checked!)

Must say that's nice in white, Cant seem to find that one when I do a search.

Hehe.

My new one came with them, I specifically looked for one with them. Just bear in mind it takes up leg room and if you do get a 1200mm wide desk, you might find it annoying. My draws are 420mm wide.

Yes if I was to get a desk with draws it would need to be longer. Cheers.

fobose what make is your new one?

It's from the same website I linked to (furniture at work), but it seems unavailable now. I've had it since July 2019.

Details from my confirmation email: Product code: 46731HE Description: VALUE LINE DELUXE WHITE LEG DESK WITH 3 DRAWERS

Ah, it could have been renamed. Perhaps VALUE LINE did not sound too good ;) These look very similar:

There is also a slimmer 600mm deep verison:

Cheers for that:)

If you were keen to keep your costs down, you could buy a standard bed side table and put that under the standard desks which work out much cheaper. I did that with an old maple coloured desk I bought a maple coloured bedside table from argos.

*edit* and another thing I did for space saving, I bought a second bedside table and put one on top of the other with a few metal L brackets to hold them together. Obviously they were not under the desk like that but in a small recess area in to the room which fit perfectly. Handy place to keep all my spare PC parts and cables ;)

What a great idea thanks for the tip fobose :)

I got my big Desk from Ikea for £70 15 years ago and still going strong...2 x 34" monitors and still loads of room

Cheers, I see a lot of people get theirs from there without any complaints, Saying that I was looking at the glass one as I liked the idea of something different, until I read about them exploding in some cases.

That's nasty :D

I got this at the start of Covid lockdown for £180
'Office Hippo Professional Cantilever Office Desk, Wood, White, White Frame, 160 x 80 x 73 cm'
Along with '3 Drawers 5 Wheels Mobile File Cabinet Filing Pedestal Lockable Storage for A4 Metal Solid Pedestal with Keys' which was £100

The 180cm one is £190.
'Office Hippo Professional Cantilever Office Desk, Wood, White, White Frame, 180 x 80 x 73 cm'

Its great quality for the price, similar to the desk in my office (office is now at home) It fits my personal setup (Acer predator X34), micro monitor speakers, work laptop and 2x 24" works screens

How did your delivery go did they take the pallet away?

Pallet, what pallet?

It comes flat packed. Two large main piece (desk and privacy back) 4x legs, 2x base pieces and screws. It didnt take long to assemble and managed by myself. I have a hard head so used that to support the main desk whilst screwing on some other bits :D

Im guessing you got it from the rainforest? been reading reviews and they all say it arrived on a pallet.

Yeh, rainforest. It may have came out the delivery van on a pallet but came into my building lobby flat packed. I remember because it carried it by myself through 4 doors, a courtyard and up 3 flights of stairs :)

Cheers, But you don't really have to tell me how strong you are :D:p I also have 3 flights of stairs I may have more steps than you though lol
