Computer Desktop Mess

I just use a personalised Start Menu and control exactly where everything is in it, desktop itself is totally empty.

Hmm tried that b4 but couldnt get it to do what I wanted lol. I have a lot of games, is there any way to have multiple rows of icons?

you mean like this?, i just shrunk it length ways and dragged it down, tbh i may use that too, never crossed my mind!

I launch anything I need by Start > Typing, hard links in a custom start menu or Pinned to Task Bar (The most common apps).

0 desktop icons. Not sure why you would need them unless you forget the name of the app you want to launch?

Only things on my desktop are recycle bin, godmode, and a couple of gadgets (clock, and a couple of things to monitor hardware temperature/CPU usage etc.)

All my games are organised in Steam. It's really easy to add non steam games and launch them from there. The My Documents folder is properly organised so I can find what I want. Occasionally I'll create a folder on the desktop for a download or moving something from another machine on the homegroup. The trick is to move it somewhere else when you've finished with it.

Firefox, Steam, iTunes, Sibelius 5, and Word are all pinned to the task bar.

Ok my desktop is currently comprised of 200 icons spread over 2 monitors. These are stored in 8 different fences to keep them organised. But atm its getting all too much lol. I never seam to lose icons, only gain them. In the past I've experimented with folderising stuff instead of fences, using docks, sidebars, even using the windows start menu! So my question is this, what do you guys do? And what do you guys recommend? I can provide screenies if needed, and wouldnt mind some of yours too :)

Tidy them screens.

Yeah after some of the comments I've moved my games and progs into task bar stuff, which helps a lot lol. Still got a load of crap lying around though. Need to work on some kind of organisation for the misc. On my old machine I had folders and folders labled misc or pics...

Games - Use Steam, add all your non-Steam games as shortcuts with in it.

Programs - Just use the Start Menu or have things running in System Tray or pinned to Task Bar.

Game specific stuff - Put it in a folder and shortcut to that folder.

Files, Docs and Pics - Put it in My Documents...

Windows does very well to create folders and libraries to organise your data so use them properly and it will make everything easier.

If all else fails download Everything which is a search program that will find what you want in seconds.
