System:
CPU: E6600
Graphics card: Ati 5850
Ram: 2gb 800mhz DDR2
Mobo: MSI p965 platinum

I come back home. With my new psu. My old one was 500w, and just to be on the safe side I thought 'lets buy a lovely modular expensive PSU'.

I bought a Coolermaster 700w modular SilentPro PSU. I put it in the computer, double checking every connection. I fire it up - both monitors saying 'no signal being received'. I start panicking. I unplug everything but the graphics card, and try again. Same answer.

I start panicking somemore. No beeps coming from the mobo like it usually does on startup.

I put the old psu back in. Same result, cpu fan comes on, graphics card fan is on, psu fan is on. but nothing.

I take the CMOS battery out. reset it with the jumpers. Try again. Nothing.
I take the CMOS battery out again, leave it for a few minutes, try again. Nothing.

Now, the old psu doesnt even come on, nothing comes on. I check the power switch connection, its definitely plugged in. I put the new psu back in, try it. Nothing.
Mobo is dead. MY new psu, which I had bought for the SOLE PURPOSE of never being in a situation where I would blow my computer............and its p0wned my mobo. It's now dead. The whole computer, dead.

This is the first time, in all my years of computer building, this has ever happened. I am furious. Has anyone got any other ideas.

Try bare minimum, ie one stick of ram, hd, gpu and cpu, double check all cables and compents.

Take everythign out. Go back to basics. Lay the mobo on a static proof sheet or a box; just make sure it is not in contact with the case. Put in the gfx card, cpu, mem only. See if it turns on. If it does then add components back in. If that works then it was shorting on the case somewhere.

Also try resetting the CMOS.

Do you have a PSU tester to try both PSU's?

have you tried a different socket in the house (or try a lamp in that socket), in case the socket is faulty?

Have you at any point removed your CPU ? Are you sure you have not jolted the CPU out of position at any point ? You didn't state what CPU cooler you were using.

LOL.

My memory was loose! CAN YOU BELIEVE THAT.
The 1 thing i didn't check, and it was that.

God i'm such a n00b.
Finally - i can scrape another couple months out the E6600 before moving onto iseven heaven.

LOL brilliant mate, its always something silly. Thats why with my new build i checked everything about 5 or 6 times before turning it on.
