Im currently a part time admin in a computer suite with 40 machines, split up into three seperate suites. One of them is lacking pretty badly now, most of them are celerons with 256=512mb of memory so they take ages to load.

I recently replaced the server, and its running like a beast. However my boss wants me to replace 10 or so of the computers. Now they dont need to be core2duos or anything, but I would like them to run good, and cheap.

And older powerful system or older amd dual core system might suffice, ideally at least a gig of memory. Ive seen the two budget systems advertised on the website, 4800+ 2.2ghz with 2 gig of memory I think it was. Now I have the XP licences and would simply transfer them over along with all the other software. Would these be the best machines to go for, or would there be a better deal out of custom builds? Keep in mind Im talking about 10 computers or so.

If any of the other computers go down, I'd be repairing them because they are long out of the warranty. I get paid for extra time spent repairing computers and I just forward the costs of any new parts to my boss, so financially speaking, it doesn't negatively effect me either way.

Due to the discounts were getting for software after now sucessfully getting full charity discounts on all MS software, its more likely to be 15-20 computers that we replace, the entire suite in one go, as the money is there.

Whichever will get me more bang for the buck is what I am after.

Yea it actually looks like I can get a better deal from somewhere else, id I can negotiate postage down. Shame though, would prefer to get it from somewhere like OC but only got so much £££ to work with.

Spot on, plus you get the benefit of on site warranty etc....

The DIY approach in the work enviroment is false economy.

It would appear so. On "a competitor" website, even including VAT and delivery for about £330 I've found some fantastic spec computers, obviously being such a large company they are able to offer deals like this.

I'd like to say though, that the exact same spec computer on their "consumer" part of their website is easily twice the price!!
