Computer for FSX

Main bottlenecks in FSX depends a lot on what addons you use, running vanilla FSX is going to have a much easier time on CPU/resources then lots of heavy payware aircraft and photo scenery addons etc.
Main FSX bottlenecks 1) CPU cycles & cores, the higher/more the better 2) GFX card most 1000MB+ cards can handle FSX pretty well, Nvidia GTX range is probably most suited and will offer the best even (not necessarily more) frame rates during flying. 3) The bottleneck that most people forget about, the I/O input output, especially Random reads at 64-128-256MB which is what FSX heavily relies on when flying and loading object/scenery, this can often cause stutters. Defragging and keeping FSX on its own drive will help, making sure drive stays @50-60% capacity otherwise slows down fast, format not at the usual 4k but 64k, keeping FSX files tidy plus the hardware that can handle fast random reads. From what I have read, the best value/fast FSX I/O access is to run a Vrap 600 sata 3 on a dedicated raid card over PCIe x4.

It really is a tricky program to get running smoothly in any situation, but patience and learning what suits your system best will often pay off.

Hi again, just wondering, will the following graphics card be ok (with good graphics-highest settings)?
Will only be a temp card for a little while until I get a 480 or something.

Or maybe eeven this, bit cheaper :p

?

As we said above you can not link to competitors on this forum. I would definately avoid the gts 450 but the 1gb palit sonic gtx 460 is a pretty good card. If only for fsx I would say save some money and get a gtx 470. Don't bother getting a 460 for a temporary measure, it'll just leave you out of pocket. A gtx 470 should work well with fsx and you shouldnt need to upgrade for a couple of years. REMOVE LINKS OR FACE A BAN!
