Hello,
I haven't built a PC in a few years and after my last one went bust I ended up just buying a cheap pre-made one from a high street retailer. Suffice to say it is not meeting my requirements but my requirements have also expanded
So I need to spec up a new build, usually I would have gone with Intel but I do a lot of multi-tasking in my work so am thinking Ryzen is possibly the way forward, but looking around the forums it seems it can be quite picky regarding what components it works happily with. I am planning to try and grab an RX Vega assuming I can get one on release, for my multiple monitor needs (3-6) and for a bit of futureproof gaming. If they aren't available then I will probably grab an nVidia but for now I need the basic build. Annoyingly the Ryzen's don't have onboard GPU's so I will probably purchase in a week closer to Vega release but would like to get it finalised for now. I don't want to spend the earth but everything seems to have gone up since I last built one so have realistic expectations as to what I will need to spend for the basic build.
Requirements:
CPU - Need decent amount of multi-tasking ability, have 2-3 separate programs open at once, plus Firefox/Chrome with many tabs and sometimes a movie player if I get bored during work
would be nice to also run a game whilst bored as well.
Cooler - Semi-limited by my case requirements but don't need anything fancy. If the stock cooler is decent and doesn't sound like a hoover that'll do me.
16GB memory - not sure which type, another Ryzen specific issue.
Motherboard - Only need a basic motherboard really, enough for 4 hard drives, 1 graphics card and that's about it, not sure how easy OC a Ryzen is but don't really want to have to unless it is really easy for a flat out stable OC.
Case - As small and quiet as possible, but big enough to accommodate a full sized graphics card.
Hard Drive/s - Good sized SSD for OS/Main programs and the odd game or two.
PSU - Apparently Vega needs a 750w so I think that's the minimum I should be looking at?
Don't need peripherals, OS, Optical Drive or monitor just the base unit.
I don't have a particular budget really, so just as cheap as possible to meet the above requirements (and a nice enough case that you don't cut your hands to ribbons on due to poor design
).
Any help appreciated.
Edit: Just realised the above forum may be more suitable for a build spec but wasn't here when I last needed a computer, that's how long its been! If mods think it should be moved, please do.
