My fathers computer is freezing up a lot, it seems to be when we click on internet explorer but only sometimes when the page loads.

I have just formatted the hard drive and reinstalled windows vista for him, aswell as a few other software applications, graphics card driver and kaspersky antivirus. a short while later i went to go onto the internet and it froze once again with a black background, no text and completely frozen.

So far there have been dark blue, green, black and white colours showing.

The only thing changed in the computer recently is the graphics card which was changed from a 8400gs to a gtx 260 216 SSC edition, and power supply from 300w to a Corsair tx850w. Dont seem to get a freeze when playing games, but not 100% certain on that.

The only odd thing i remember was my father saying he saw 2 guns in front of him in CSS where 1 looked like a ghost gun.

Anyone know what the problem is? after a format and fresh install of windows i would have thought the problem would go, but it hasnt.

i take it you've tried a couple of different drivers? any chance it could be a monitor problem rather than the graphics card?

its not that, the computer will freeze completely.. and earlier on i tried installing left 4 dead which froze near the end of the installation.

3Dmark vantage did a few tests, almost got to the CPU test 2 but it didnt load.. pressed ctrl alt and delete and vantage had a problem and needed to close.

Something strange is going on, the screen went completely white just coming into windows and had to reboot by holding the power button and pushing it again.

I ran Prime95 and it ran for a few hours while we went out, seems alright.. so do the temps on realtemp

 this one has me stumped
