Hiya guys

troubleshooting my parents pc for them at the moment. It seems randomly the whole computer will just freeze. Completely unresponsive, no error messages, nothing in event viewer, just have to restart it.

There is no correlation or apparant cause in the freezing but today i decided to look at temps and coretemp is showing 62 degrees IDLE. Now i know this is far to hot. Could this be causing this type of problem?

cpu is an athlon 3400+.

I guess you have not overclocked anything and all fans are running (vanes not blocked with dust). May be an idea to clean & re-mount your heatsink (Artic Silver 5 is great). Most new systems need a well ventialted case (mine can't run cool with the side cover on).

I'd then download the latest memtest 86 (V1.7) and burn to a cd, boot from that, leave running and see if you get any problems...(tests the core of your system, cuts out Windows and your hard drive etc).

Regards
