I was wondering if someone could give me some advice,

I turned on my computer, after transporting it to a new home and when I turned it on it turned itself off within a second or two and I smelt some burning,
now it will not turn on at all?

Will it definately be the PSU? or could it be something else? or is there anything I can try?

Many thanks,

Mike

Nope, don't have anything spare! I had a look but couldn't see anything damaged, altho I must admit my case was very dusty inside, maybe could have been that?

Is it likely to be the PSU do you think? or would there be other reasons for no power?

Mike

Almost certainly the PSU. You can test it by itself by shorting the green wire to ground, probably want to disconnect everything from it first.

Yep sounds like a PSU issue. If it is, and given what you said about the smell, you should be able to tell by having a whiff of the PSU! I had a PSU die once and it was very obvious after sniffing it. Of course, not all dead PSUs will smell, but if any of the coils are burnt out then you should almost certainly smell it.
