Computer halting at POST

Hello,

My pc was fine up until a few days ago when it decided that during POST asfter switching the system on, that it just sits and waits for just about a full 2 minutes before it actually starts to load Windows. It used to be pretty much immediate. Can't think of anything that happened that could cause it. It halts and after the wait time it then does the memory check and the backlight on my keyboard then turns on. It seems like it is waiting for something to happen and then is timing out on us and starting Windows as usual. I have checked suspects such as usb flash drives being in but I ahve removed all those and the wait still persists.

Any help would be highly appreciated.

Thanks, Neil

Thanks, Pete

That was my first thought!

Have you tried booting with just say a PS2 keyboard attached, have you tried taking the BIOS battery overnight and resetting the BIOS.

Strip it down to the bare bones the machine needs to be able to boot then add devices + boot (repeat)

could be that fastboot is not turned on in the bios, if you have a lot of RAM I think that if fastboot is not turned on then all of your RAM is checked after POST (I'm not sure though)

what headrat said, try that first.

I had this same problem a while ago, unfortuantly the only solution for me was to reinstall OS which fixed it.
