Computer hanging up...again :(

Hi guys,

I posted a few weeks ago about system hanging up and having a faulty ssd causing the crashes. Well i RMA'd the ssd and got a new one back (thanks OcUK :). Ditched my old 2 hard drives and formatted my big game hard drive clean (yes all 300 gb of games gone!) and installed win7x64 on the ssd again. Flawless installation, installed updated drivers and some benchmarking stuff and a few games to test.

All was working fine after days of gaming sessions and then bam, got a system crash (audio was in a loop still i could hear) while playing a game. It was just like 5 minutes after a cold boot, so i thought may be overheating of the cpu so i restarted and had core temp up (all temps at mid 30s) and then again 5 minutes in system hang no BSOD or anything but just a freeze up of the game - Alt+tab works for a few seconds after and then the whole screen freezes. Downloaded unigine benchmark ran it on ultra settings twice just to check temperatures and to see if it crashes but nothing. Played the game again for hours after and no crash so i thought its all good. Then again yesterday downloaded crysis 1, cranked up everything and then 5 minutes in - system hangs again.

Not sure what the problem is right now but i think the following may be causing this. In descending order of likelihood:

1. faulty ram?
2. PSU failing? (using Corsair TX 750W ATX SLI Compliant Power Supply (CMPSU-750TXUK)
3. Motherboard + cpu problem? (bios is up to date)
4. HDD connection failing?
5. windows 7 cd installer not installing properly on to ssd?
6. GPU failing? (temps during benchmark don't go higher than 68C)
7. Software problem? New AMD drivers, everything else is from motherboard cd)
8. Peripherals causing problem? Only have a new headset, keyboard and mouse.
9. virus?

Could someone please share some process of elimination kinda scheme for me to find out what's wrong and how can i check? Really bugging me.

Note: Bios is upto date to the latest revision and all of this was on factory default clocks, no OC.

thanks

Right so what i have done so far:

1) Run Intel CPU diagnostic tool

Did it and it all passed.

2) Run a virus checker, I personally use Microsoft Security Essentials

No viruses found

3) Update AMD graphics driver and Intel chip set drivers. Intel detect utility below.

Amd drivers were update and the intel chip set driver utility did not detect any drivers at all. A manual search was only showing me intel motherboards.

I would also install Intel Rapid Storage Technology Driver if not already done.

Was installed already.

4) Put the computer to stock, timing voltages everything, write down on paper what your bios setting were previous however.

Done.

5) Run the computer on the OS drive only, unplug all other SSD/HDD's.

Did that and the windows were booting fine

6) Update the bios is not already done to latest stable release (but not beta at this stage)

I am on revision f6 which is the latest for the mobo

7) Disable the on board Intel HD graphics.

Did that before i posted my original post and the crash happened after it was disabled so i have left it disabled ever since.

I also disconnected my dvd drive and installed fresh chipset drivers from gigabyte's website.

I also limited the amd overdrive power limit to 20% and went to manual fan control.

For the duration of the burn tests/benchmark and gaming session, i did not get a crash. I will keep on testing and report back once all bases are covered.

Thanks again to all who chipped in. :)
