Got new machine recently. And when I turn it on it hangs at the Vista Loading screen (which is slightly greyed out) for 5 mins.. then just starts fine?

anyone know what could cause this?

First port of call is to unplug any peripherals like usb devices you don't require.

Good point regards USB devices - I'll unplug them this evening and check.

with regards to spec:

AMD Phenom quad clocked at 3.8Ghz
2 x Solid State drives in RAID 0 (60GB per)
4GM DDR3 Dual Channel RAM
Sapphire 5870 G/card

Is it trying to reconnect network drives that don't exist or loading buggy drivers / software?

Or is it way before it gets to that stage?

We get the same thing with an XP machine at work sometimes but nowhere near as bad (it only delays boot by 30s max). It appears to be a problem with detecting one of our PCI-E devices (an interface to a National Instruments pattern generator).

So it could be a PCI/PCI-E device. If removing all of your USB devices doesn't cure it, try taking out any of these expansion cards (except graphics card) if you have any.
