Recently, my pc has started hanging for up to 10-15 seconds at a time, at random intervals as if the CPU is spiking at 100%. However it isn't spiking in the task manager, any idea what this is?

Edit: It suddenly stopped, but when I restarted my computer it took absolutely AGES to get past the windows loading screen, and once it was in windows it took ages to load programs (mouse drivers, firewall, MSN) that it usually loads instantly. Once it loaded everything, I cant even press the 'Start' key as it just takes so long to appear, I can't be bothered waiting. I rebooted the computer a few more times until it suddenly started at normal speed, but now I'm scared to restart it again. Any ideas what this could be :(?

your CPU isn't overheating is it? Have you done temperature checks?

Would advise doing all the usual stuff first; virus scan, trojan scans, disk fragment, scan disk. A number of factor could affect your pc like it has, the mentioned above being some aid to that!

Have you tried repositioning your ram, trying different slots too as that can be a cause for a system to freeze up.

When does your pc hang?
