Hello all

I've got a abit kv8 max board with a AMD 3200+ 64 ( 3 years old now at least) 1gig of ram

I've been having a few problems with the computer over a period of time now.
Last night i switched it off after using for a few hours everything was fine.

Went to boot it back up later on and it just hangs on the the blue screen that says Windows XP and has the logo just before going into desktop.

I've tried safe mode no good also as it does the same. Switched everything off reseated my memory unpluged my SATA drives still no good.

When i unpluged my SATA it then could't detect them when i plugged them back on I did this with the power off before any says anything ;) .

A also reset the CMOS and took the battery off the motherboard.

I had a error i'd never seen before also at one point that i'd changed cpu or CPU was unusable? But thats now gone and it boots up again to the screen it hangs on.

I've no idea why it's done this or how to fix it?

Really could do with some advice please.

Thank you..

What exactly were u doing before u turned off the pc last night (ie surf internet, update drivers, etc)

I was surfing on the web trying to find a couple of hotels for a holiday I've used these sites loads of time and sent a email to a friend that was it.

I'm just at a loss whats happened getting very frustrate with this computer!.

Problem here is that it is nicely narrowed down to either : CPU, Mobo, Psu, Ram or Hdd. However the first thing id try is one memory module at a time and move it through all the slots. If no joy then try the other module.

I've tried the memory last night and 5am this morning and it didn't change anything.

The hard drives i've tried to boot up just one with OS on and no good plugged other drives in to and it sees them and boots up but hangs at blue welcome screen ( xp logo on)

I'm going to reseat the cpu when i get home and see if that works.

I really don't want to do a format and reinstall.

As for psu not sure how to test test that though it does seem to work fine on all it's sockets,
