Computer is overheating

Does anyone know why my computer is overheating. Recently when I leave my computer on over a long perid of time it starts to overheat and the computer freezes.

Which CPU do you have? Which GPU? Which one is overheating? Are all the fans working?

Put it in the freezer.

Are the fans working? Are they clogged with dust?

Place your hand on the graphics card. Does it feel hot?
Touch the CPU cooler. Does it feel hot?

Run HW Monitor and check the temperatures.

Do you have any overclocks on?

Perhaps its not heat but a dodgy ram overclock or cpu?

There is not much information in your post but my initial response would be that it could be full of dust and needs cleaning. Can you unplug it, take the side panel off and take a picture of the fans over the CPU, graphics card and on the case?

Heh, kind of inevitable how the summer (I'm being northern hemisphere biased) wakes up these issues. How are you observing that its overheating? If its the case being hot you probably need to either clear out fluff or replace a fan.

Take the side panel off and visually inspect, make sure there are no large dust buildups (fans/intakes etc), make sure the CPU and GPU fans are spinning.

Tell us what hardware you have.

Download and install https://www.cpuid.com/softwares/hwmonitor.html and tell us what temps are when first turned on and what they reach when idle for a while.

I had a similar issue on an oldish pc, and used the cpuid hardware monitor. Turned out the cpu cooler full of dust!
Removed it, cleaned it out with compressed air and it worked fine when it was refitted.

I would assume the maker of the thread probably is not coming back as when this was posted another thread with the exact same question and at the same time was made by "TodorTodorov02", both mia since the 16th. (i would guess they are the same person)
