Not overclocked

System was running fine on my old specs :

Skylake i5
MSI Z170A Gaming Pro motherboard
MSI Radeon HD7850
16 Gb RAM
an 8 year old OCZ 780W PSU
ASUS Xonar sound card

various SSD and HDDs and an IcyBox

running on a 144HZ gaming monitor

recently bought a second hand GTX 970

system was running fine, fans on the GTX 970 came on when it was getting too hot, still no problems

new PSU arrived a Seasonic Focus Plus Gold 650W

so now specs are :

kylake i5
MSI Z170A Gaming Pro motherboard
ASUS Strix GTX970
16 Gb RAM
Seasonic Focus Plus 650W
ASUS Xonar sound card

various SSD and HDDs and an IcyBox

running on a 144HZ gaming monitor

before i installed the PSU , I decided to gut the case (bar the mobo and CPU and heatsink)
and gave all the components a good clean, got rid of all the dust.

put everything in, works a treat (or so i thought)

1st thing started to happen was my monitor would not receive any signal from the computer, PC still on

Graphics cards Fans no longer comes on, so i download GPU tweak from the asus website and adjust the GPU fans so they now come on (come on earlier too)

i am now having trouble booting, nothing is coming up on my screen, and im still getting the odd monitor goes blank issues and when i reboot (hard rest) struggles to turn on

What could be going on here ? im thinking faulty GPU ?

Are you using DP cable to connect to your monitor?

There's a known cold boot issue with some 9 and 10 series Nvidia cards (very hit and miss) - where they take a couple of boots to kick in and be recognised by windows. (I have a similar problem with my GTX 1070 using a DP cable).

Sometimes flashing the motherboard/GFX card to the latest BIOS can resolve this if it is the issue. If it can't some people resort to using an HDMI input as that will usually fix the issue (this may not suit you as long term solution if you 1440p 144HZ).

If you are running a DP cable try running an HDMI cable for a few days and see if your issue disappears.

ahhh thanks for that !

Yeah using DP because on my old GPU it wont allow me to get over 60HZ otherwise
so i continued to use it, im sure you have to use DP to get 144HZ out of it ?

just had a look on the asus website, the latest bios says it fixes this problem, so ive installed it

fingers crossed !

Good luck!

Yes DP guarantees 144HZ at 1080p/1440p

Your card, I think, has an HDMI 2.0 output and if you're gaming at 1080p then an HDMI 2.0 lead will (in theory) carry up to 120Hz, from a quick google (you would need to double check as the info out there is ambiguous and depends on quality of lead, HDMI output of GFX card and HDMI input of monitor)

But you could certainly test the HDMI cable at 60Hz to see if it works to rule out the DP as a possible cause.

**But hopefully the latest BIOS will fix.

Any luck @ShiWarrior?

*Additional info: As I use multiple monitors, I've conned my system by using an HDMI lead on my secondary screen and a DP lead on my primary and third monitor. This results in the initial boot sequence being displayed on the secondary screen and the very start of the Windows 10 boot screen. It then disengages from this screen to my primary and completes the boot process. Without, this compromise I have similar issues as, unfortunately, the BIOS updates didn't work for my system. But I think my aging 1155 socket motherboard may also be part of my systems problem/conflict.

Plec is a da man i know nothing about dp apart from double penertration. :D

I think the GFX card may feel violated with both an HDMI and a DisplayPort inserted into it at the same time. I know I would refuse to boot... (How has a gfx card problem turned in to a Kenneth William's routine? :D)
