Computer keeps booting to BIOS??!

Hi all,

Wondering if anyone can help me with a genuinely odd problem, that I don't seem able to solve.

This morning my PC froze, so I reset it. It kept booting to the BIOS screen, so I figured perhaps the overclock was causing it some bother. I reset to defaults, but it perisisted.

The boot menu in the BIOS did look a bit odd, as it kept putting 'removable device' as first boot device. So I selected my SSD to the first boot position, but this didn't work either. Then, purely by accident, I noticed that after booting to the BIOS, if I simply pressed exit (not SAVE and exit), it will then boot quite happily into windows??! Unfortunatey for some reason I can't even access the separate boot menu, as if I hit F8 to try and get to it just loads the BIOS screen.

I removed any USB connections other than my mouse and keyboard, in case my external drive was causing issues. But still not solved. I reset the CMOS, and after boot selected 'load defaults', and it booted straight away to windows. But then when I reset it, straight back to BIOS again.

Any ideas what could be causing this??

Thanks.

I would take everything not needed to run it out, ie GFX card memory HDD's just have the bare minimum in there and see what happens.

I do NOT believe it. Proof that with computers the simplest things can escape us. I've had some old memory in there, disconnected my other drives etc etc, been googling for the last two hours for solutions.... and just now I noticed.... the period key at the bottom of the number pad, is ALSO a delete key... and it was stuck down! Can't really berate my computer for booting into the BIOS every attempt when thats exactly what its being asked to do by the keyboard.

DOH! Not one of my finer moments.

ha there's always times when you dive in and ignore all the basic stuff, I remember trying to diagnose some dodgy sound issues with some typical desktop speakers and it wasn't until 2 hours of fiddling with settings and drivers I actually thought of looking at the actual 3.5mm jack - it wasn't pushed all the way in -_-
