Recently i bought a computer, i am using a gigabyte mobo, i have a sata Cd rom drive, and a samsung IDE hard drive now when i just connect the CD drive it will boot the xp cd no problem but BSOD when i get to the installing screen as no HD is connected but when i connect them both it wont pick the cd rom up and just crash when its about to reach the windows loading screen, ive tried a few things first boot device set to cd rom ect.. but still no go so i hope you guys can help me.

Thanks!

The first thing i would check is that the ram is ok.

Download memtest and make a bootable disk from it. Just download the zip file then extract it and burn the iso as an image using nero etc.

From my (limited) experience if there is no hard drive connected during xp installation it will just say "no hd found" rather than bsod.

How did you get to the position you are in now? Pressume it was all working fine then went wrong?

Well i built it, connected everything but i used a harddrive i had in my other pc which is a samsung 120 gig, so every time it trys to boot up it just crashes when it goes to loading windows screen

Did you do a fresh install of xp or use old one from previous build? Normaly a new motherboard will require a fresh install.

Ive never had this trouble before tho, it just dosnt seem to pick up the cd drive, do u think there is a problem with the motherboard or?

Sorry mate but not familiar with sata cd drives so not able to help :(

Is it showing up in the bios? Might be something you have to enable to get it to work. Also try a different sata cable in case its a dodgey one and a different sata port if possible.

Not sure if you need to use a floppy with the drivers on to get it to work first?

Hopefully somebody more qualified can help.

Thanks for ** help anyway, ive never came accross a problem like this before so its kinda weird and google isnt coming up with much either. Everything i have built before has been straight forward no problems but this time its getting frustrating.

plug the cd drive into the last SATA port. not the first.

this may help.

My friend had a problem like this.

and i think that sorted it.

hope this works for you.
