Hello All
I have a newish system that was self built (have been building pc's since the 286 days)
Ok, I had brought the case, psu, mobo, 1 set of ram, LG bluray drive and cpu cooler about 6 months ago from OC.
I had issues from the start that I managed to resolve (System not shutting down etc) which was resolved with a week or two after I brought them.
It has all been fine until the last couple of days where I have noticed it just reboot my machine, I mean the PSU just turns off waits 1 second and turns back on and reboots.
I have read loads of people getting this on other system hardware combinations so I think it's a hardware compatibility issue.
I first thought it was a Windows Driver issue, but it also cut off while running Memtest86+ about 40 odd mins into the running tests, this happened 3 time after each reboot.
I did at one point think it was a PSU due to the PSU just cutting off like that.
How ever I have discovered something strange, I need to enable the XMP in the bios to fully detect the settings of my 6 ram sticks.
And where the Memory controller is built into the CPU I then thought it maybe the CPU, due to the last motherboard (Intel branded) bios CMOS dying on me (caused by a bios failing to flash twice) resulting in the CPU (2.667GHz) running at over 4GHz (please note I have never OC).
The CPU hasn't been the same since and now suffers with high temps, which was why I brought the Cooler Master V8 CPU Cooler, and now the cpu idles at 38C on core 7 and 44C on core 0. (a lot cooler than 68C when idling)
Now if I disable the XMP in the bios, I can now run memtest86+ fine and it passed it 3 times with no fails, only run it for 5h 30 mins (12 GB of ram takes ages to test) and had no reboots at all.
The only down side now is its running my (12800 @1600MHz) Memory at (10600 @ 1066MHz), so is it a ram issue or a CPU issue or a Motherboard issue?
Or is it just a compatibility issue with the Memory and Motherboard?
If its a compatibility issue I have no issues in buying higher speed memory if I have to run it in SPD only (non XMP) unless there is a fully compatibility memory must be 6*2GB sticks or 3*4GB sticks, I need at least 12GB of ram for Game Development/Video Encoding.
So anyone know of any fully compatibility memory for this motherboard 1600MHz upwards?
Thanks in advance.
Paul
