Computer keeps restarting

Windows Vista 64
nvidia drivers 177.41

No new hardware since like last month which was a new graphics card, no problems since today. Ive done a system restore but no luck:(

Edit: no BSOD message just a black screen or sometimes it just restarts my pc for me?

well ive dl the 178.13 drivers and had a quick play and its not restarting anymore. Ive only had a about 5 mins of play, but i got work so ill have a big play session afterwards to see if i have the problem.

Cheers though, but i think its alright now:)

Well i was wrong its started doing it again:(

My monitor turns off so instead of a blue light i get red. Sometimes it restarts the pc for me, or sometimes i got to do it myself:confused::(

Could there be a powersetting on my pc doing this, shouldnt be cause i aint touched none of thoes settings?

Is my pc getting too hot, not sure cause i have no tools to check.

I have no idea really, help please.

Are you using on-board sound?
What game(s) does it do this crashing in?
Has it done it whilst not playing a game?

Lavalys Everest will be able to monitor all temps, voltages, fan speeds etc but you'd need to buy it to use it all iirc.

GPU-Z can monitor graphics card temps, Realtemp or Coretemp for CPU.

Its probably best to have real/coretemp and gpuz running then have prime95 run a cpu only stress test for x amount of hours and see what happens. If that runs fine for 6~hours +, next best thing to do would be a memtest86 test for at least 5 or 6 passes (i like to get at least 18 error free, takes a while for that many though). Again if no errors and all is well, stress the graphics with gpuz logging temps etc

Cheers for all that:)

Its crashed twice tonight just reading these forums, but none on the games tonight. Ive got an xfi fatality sound card. It has done it on games but not since ive updated the drivers, but i think thats just luck and it could happen in games.

Ive dl gpuz and ive got three temps to look at these are as follows in order:
GPU temp: 63c
GPU temp: 55c
PCB temp: 52c

No idea if thats alright?

Those seem fine, i'd put a wager on this being ram or memory related (every chance it could be a motherboard fault rather than a component) given that its locked up whilst doing nothing intensive. As easy as it is to do id give memtest86 a whack overnight/whilst at work/school

would like to try memtest but id be lucky to run the test for an hour before my pc restarts:p:(

CPU temp 38c

well its really messed up now, i cant even use it. When i turn it on, it ask for my bootdisk. So i put that in but i dont get enough time to use it before it goes black or restarts.
Also im getting blue artifacts across my screen sometimes. It could be a couple blue lines, or lots of blue patterns that get worse the longer i keep my pc on.

What is going on:confused::(

well ive somehow got lucky and managed to get my bootdisk working. Ive formatted both my hard drives and restarting all afresh. Now to see what happens, hopefully itll be alright.

Well thought it solved my problem, but it hasnt:(

Its not asking for bootdisk anymore, but its still restarting, and getting random artifacts. All i do is restart my pc and i dont get the artifacts anymore until i restart my pc again or decide to go on it again later, its just so random.
As for the random restarts it could happen anytime, in game or even just on my desktop.

Im tempted to throw money at the problem and replace the following:
PSU
Motherboard
Ram

So what should i do?

Well the problem is back again:( What am i to do, this is getting annoying:mad:

It started today with random turning offs so i had to restart the pc. Plus im getting the artifacts still so then i got to restart my pc to get rid of that. Ando now i keep getting a message asking for the boot disk.

Right its back again:mad::(

So ive replaced the following:
motherboard
PSU
Ram
graphics cards

The only thing i can think it has to be is the monitor? what else could it be?

If it's your actual computer restarting then I don't see how it can be your monitor tbh.

Only thing missing from the list of things you've replaced is your CPU itself..

well my monitor is getting like a blue stuff across the screen. It starts off with a few lines and then lots of it everywhere. Till eventually ive got to restart it cause the screen flickers black???
