Weird one, one of our computers keeps randomly turning itself on. I opened it up, took it apart, cleaned it [a LOT of dust] and it was fine for a bit then -beep- on it goes again.

Weird, what could be causing this?

list the pc's specs/parts

when it goes off just it go off instantly or blue screens? checked power cable/wall socket plug

E6600
2GB ddr2
x1950pro

Some old asus motherboard

Well, it turns on, not off. No BSODs or anything like that. It actually boots itself up when it starts.

oops on, sorry im blind:(

maybe check the front panel power switch? could be faulty or earthing

test by putting the front panel reset button wires on the mb front panel power button pins and start pc with reset button

don't connect power button wires to mb just incase its faulty

EDIT: yh you mean on from sleep mode? ect

Not from sleep mode, from actual shutdown.

Yeah, I'll check the front panel. Really odd though. If it was from sleep I could understand but this is when it's off.

I've had this problem before, can be quite peculiar to find what's causing it.

Mine was the "on switch" had collapsed inside, so any small knock/vibration would make it connect thus starting the computer. Thing is the switch itself felt fine.

Just disconnect the power on button from your board. Then see if it still happens.

Pete.
