Hi all.

I recently upgraded my PC with a 970 and a 512gb MX100 SSD. The motherboard I am using is a Gigabyte Z68-UD3-B3 and a 2500k CPU. I had to update the bios on the motherboard because it took ages to boot and I couldn't access the bios after installing the 970. This is where the problems started.

I was having random lockups when just browsing the web. I have found that I can consistently cause the computer to lock up by running prime95 for about three and a half minutes.

Here is a list of things I have tried to resolve the problem and none have worked:

Reinstalled Windows 7 and changed the 970 for my old 7950 without installing graphics drivers.

Changed it back to the 970 without installing graphics drivers

Swapped back to my older Sandisk SSD and did a fresh install of Windows

Made sure all of my Ram timings were correct etc.

Flashed the Bios back to an earlier version

Swapped PSU's

Reapplied thermal paste to CPU heatsink

I have run out of things to try. What do you guys think? Have I missed anything?

Made it to 20 minutes and counting of prime 95 with just 1 stick of memory inserted. Much better than 3 and a half minutes. I have four sticks of RAM so will do each one for an hour of Prime 95.

did you manage to catch the bsod code?

running stock or oc'd? and how much ram and speed?

There wasn't a blue screen. It just freezes and you have to hold the power button down to switch the machine off.

I am running everything stock. I have 4x 2GB sticks. They are crucial 1600mhz DDR3.

they from an older setup 2gb sticks?

if they are rated at 1.5v set the dram to 1.55v cpu/vtt is usually fine on auto 1.05v but can try one/two clciks above 1.05v and see if its any better

you might also see what its crashed on in windows event viewer, and does it crash with older sandisk ssd installed? ive seen few issues with the mx100 freezing up

I have been using the RAM for about a year at least in the same motherboard I am using now. I will try the voltages you suggest to see if it makes any difference. I have had crashes using the Sandisk as well yes.

I am testing 2 sticks of RAM and have had no crashes after half an hour of Prime95. I will try all four again in a while.

OK I put all four sticks back in and it crashed again after about 3 and a half minutes. I think we can safely say there is something up when running 4 sticks of RAM. I will try the voltage settings now to see if that works.
