Hi guys,
For a couple of months now I've been getting an on/off problem where my computer freezes at the boot screen. Where it detects the processor and memory. It used to freeze at varying times during this sequence... so e.g. only half a line would appear, or other times 2 lines would appear and then sometimes I would get an error where it says CPU has changed or is unworkable. I managed to resolve this a couple of times by reseating the ram, and reconnecting the power cables.
But when I did it last night it didn't turn back on again... now when I turn the machine on the fans start and stop. But this is only when the ATX12V cable is plugged in... when the ATXPWR cable (24 pin cable) is plugged and not the 12V cable the fans stay on but the machine doesn't boot.
I think the problem is the PSU and my freezing on start up issues in the past have been related with the PSU as well. However I never noticed any instability while in windows.
Could I have accidentally crushed the CPU?
Could anyone confirm this? Or does anyone have any other suggestions?
Thanks.
Spec is:
Intel Q6600
GEIL 4GB RAM
Abit IP35
EVGA 8800GTS
