Computer no workie...

Morning gents,

Yesterday i was playing BFBC2 when the game froze. I did a CTRL+ALT+DELETE and then artifacts started to appear, so on my screen i had bits of BFBC2 and bits of Windows showing.

I turned off the PC and turned it back on and i got the BIOS screen but there were loads of little blue dashes down the screen. I turned to PC off and took out the card (4870x2) and the PC worked fine. Put it back in and all i got is the black screen PLUS none of the USB devices worked, yet they work without the card plugged in.

Is this a GPU issue, or could it be the mobo/PSU?

I've created a thread asking what GPU to replace the 4870x2 with here but if a mod see's this then you might as well close that thread and put a link to this one if you would be so nice

Definitely a graphics card issue. If it's doing it in bios it's not a driver or overheating issue either. You need a new card I'm afraid.

You could always try another card from a friend if possible just to make sure...

I used an old 8600GTS and that worked without fault either.

I've just ordered a GTX 480 as i want to go back to Nvidia, never had a problem with any of their cards.

Still, £200 is a lot of money

you could always try the oven trick on your old gfx card.
