Computer not booting.

Hello,

Last night I left the computer on downloading and went out for a few hours, when I came back the machine was off. When I tried to start it again the fans spin for a second (case fans, PSU, graphics card etc) and then stop and repeat the same action every 5 or so seconds.

I tried resetting the CMOS (both the pin method and removing the battery as this fixed the problem previously, which happened a few months ago with the exact same symptoms) but this had no result whatsoever. I have tested the power supply in another machine and it worked correctly, I've also tried removing the graphics card and each stick of ram (1 at a time) and tried to boot, but nothing happened, no beeps - nothing.

Any help would be appreciated.

You spoke of some "previous" time that it had occurred, was it the same scenario last time? where you left the pc on, came back to find out it had shut off? or were you just not able to turn it on initially? Cause the fact that it shut off itself means something has gone wrong in the hardware as opposed to it just not turning on after you turned it off.

I may be wrong though

Yes, sorry i should've said, both times this happened was after leaving the computer on unattended for a period of time. Although both times it was only about 4 hours, and I've had it on longer than that while using it the majority of the time.

Also, the specs of the machine are

Q6600 (was overclocked to 3Ghz from 2.4)
2x 2GB Geil 800mhz
Abit IP35 Pro
Geforce 8800GT
Corsair XL 650w psu
