I have just upgraded my gpu from a x1900xtx to a powercolor r9 280x and the system will not even post. It powers up and all the fans spin the hdds spin up but the screen doesn't come on.

The system will run fine using the on-board gpu and fine with the xtx but there's no output to the monitors when the 280x is installed. The xtx works with all the pci e power connectors so i don't think its the psu.

Anyone got any ideas

There is a small dip switch on the 280x beside the crossfire connector but i don't know what it does and don't the idea of flicking it and frying the whole system.

The system spec is:
corsair tx750 psu
i5 3570
ga-z77m d3h
2 hdds
optical drive

the switch is for the backup bios on the card(dual bios)

you need latest motherboard bios I reckon to support the new 280x card

use old card or onboard graphics and flash to latest bios with usb stick and qflash

heres latest beta

GA-Z77M-D3H - F15a http://download.gigabyte.us/FileList/BIOS/mb_bios_ga-z77m-d3h_f15a.exe

or you can use latest final bios off gigabytes website

(make a note of any bios/oc settings before you flash as it will reset everything)

I have had the same issue with a HIS 7950 and an MSI Z77 Mpower.

Tried all the BIOS's under the sun but still it doesn't work in the primary slot.

Only works at x2 speed in the secondary slot, which is ofcourse useless really!

In touch with MSI currently about it but the BIOS they gave me hasn't worked yet.

Its a freaking nightmare!
