Hi Guys,

My computer recently has not been working. I try the shotgunning process, like unplugging unessesscary things.

Then I tried one stick of RAM and it worked.. Ahh I though, it's the RAM. But today I just wanted to make sure its not anything else.

It only posts with one stick, I've tried both sticks, each one at a time, in different slots. Each time it boots. But as soon as I install both of the Sticks, it turns on for like 3 seconds and powers down, and sometimes it automatically reboots into a continuous sequence.

Specs in Sig.
Rev 3.3 Gigabyte DS3
This is the RAM, bought from here: GeIL 2GB (2x1GB) PC6400C5 800MHz Value DDR2 Dual Channel Kit (GX22GB6400DC)

Any ideas?

If both sticks work individually, it suggests to me there's something up with the motherboard. Have you run memtest on the individual sticks?

Hi, it definately sounds like a motherboard problem to me, as I had a Gigabyte GA-K8VT 800 Pro mobo on a 754 socket and I could only run one stick of ram at a time and not 2 together. When I read on the web, I found that a few people had the same problems with the same board, so maybe the DS 3 have that problem on the board.

As for Memtest, google it as I can't remember the site address off the top of my head now. Hope this helps.

Sounds familiar

Have a look on the motherboard forum.

Sounds like the problem I had with my DS3 and Corsair Dominator RAM. It was not very clear in the DS3 users manual, but the default RAM socket output was 1.8V. It was also not very clear on the Corsair leaflet with the RAM, but it needed 2.1V to work properly. I was lucky: the system lurched into life on one stick, and I could adjust the voltage (some people had to buy a cheapo stick of RAM so they could power up and adjust voltages).

Do check the specs thoroughly before you go increasing voltages though!
