Ok, so I sent my old PC to my friend, was working perfectly when it left here and now that he has got it, it is not working.

The Problem
--------------
When he turns the computer on all of the fans come on, the HDD light is solid but there is nothing on the screen. It will not even get to display a post message or anything, just "No signal".

To try and fix the problem he has checked all cables are correctly plugged in, cleared the cmos, reseated the RAM, tried both RAM stick individualy, reseated GFX card, tried it in a different PCI-e slot, tried the same with another GFX card. Brought it to a PC repair place and they said the mobo if dead because there are no beeps, but seeing as it is in an Antec 900 which does not come with a speaker, I need some extra help.

Specs incase you need em.

Antec 900
Asus P5N-D
q6600 with stock cooler
500GB HDD
4GB patriot ddr2 800MHz
750 watt corsair
GTX 260

The comp is a few years old but was working perfectly until it arrived with him.

Anyone got any ideas?
Thanks in advance.

Is it your old monitor or his own?

Try different DVI cable or port on gpu.

Have you checked the cables yourself, as he might have missed something.

You say the HDD light is solid, this could be the problem. Does it not flash when you start the computer (as in reading from it).

Sorry if you have done all this, it's the only things i can think of.

Tried 4 monitors and a 5th that the PC repair guy used, tried both ports on the GFX card.

I cant check myself since he is in England and im in Northern Ireland, :(

He says the HDD LED Flashes now from when he turns it on and then after a few seconds it goes off. Before it was solid for the first few seconds then went off.

Well the computer left here everything connected and working correctly, when it arrived there it wasnt working but all of the cables etc were in correctly so they wouldnt have been changed at all.

Any quick way of testing it or would it need to be swapped to another comp to test? He doesnt have one powerful enough for the system I sent him so would moving the PSU from the comp I sent to another comp that 100% works be the only way to test it?

Did they explain all their tests - because if they've tested it properly and come to this conclusion then it's probably the MB (assuming they knew what they were doing - they should have had a MB speaker to hand - although this alone would not be enough to convict the MB.)

However, assuming they didn't test it properly you could try the following:

Run a skeleton setup - e.g. 1 stick of memory, gfx. Unplug all hdd's (power and sata/ide cable), usb devices, keyboards etc... See if you get any signs of life. If by some miracle you do start plugging in devices until it buckles.

You could also do a basic PSU test - below are links to Huddy's site which has a step by step guide on how to test your PSU using a volt/multimeter:

'Use a multimeter to check your PSU' and one to 'How to check if your PSU is faulty'

wait, he had a PC repair guy look at it that didn't repair it?

PC repair guy wanted £150 to replace motherboard, not a chance tbh

All the guy said was the PSU isnt the problem so dont think he tested very well, will try and get the PSU tested, dont have a multimeter though so will have to be the sencond like there.

You can connect 2 PSU's to the same mobo. Use one to power the 24pin socket and the other to power all the peripherals. Thats how I found out mines was faulty

Have you plugged it into the VGA on the mobo? Check bios to see if it is set to on board graphics? Not clear if you have done that.

I dont get far enough to get to the bios, as soon as I power the comp on it says no signal, black screen. :(

EDIT: Also the P5N-D doesnt have on board gfx and the bios was set correctly as it left my house working fine, arrived there dead.

Yip you would need short the pins on the mobo. Follow the wire from the power switch on your case to the mobo. The pins should be labeled +&- then just touch the 2 pins very carelfully with a small screw driver or something
