Computer not recognising ps2 keyboard nor ps2 adapter

As the title says, I'm having trouble getting my computer to recognise that a ps2 keyboard is connected. My spare ps2 keyboard just does not work at all, and when I plug a ps2 connector into my usb keyboard the lights flicker on for about a second, then straight off again and the keyboard doesn't work.

I'm trying to enable my usb keyboard in the bios so I can address some sound issues, but since neither my usb keyboard nor my ps2 one work at all, thats not happening.

Does anybody know what could be wrong?

Whats the mobo?

I had this problem with my old nForce 2 mobo. Never fixed it, the PS2 ports just stopped working.

I'll ask the numpty question.... you are using the bottom (keyboard) port and not the top (mouse) port ?

Well they're side by side on my board but yeah, I tried both
