One other thing. After the computer goes on for a second, the PSU makes a low quiet sound after everything else goes off. It's like a hum

It's a pain, but try seeing if your new one works on his rig. If not, you know what to do :)

If it does work, then I'm stumped...

Other than that, all I can suggest is obvious stuff like making sure everything's plugged in nice and tight.
I'm having no problems with mine, but a dodgy one makes it's way through the net every now and then.

Changed the socket I was using, took everything out and back in again, still not working. That kind of low squeel is still coming out of the PSU when I turn it off. Does anyone have any ideas?

Like the others said: try the PSU in another rig. Also check your MOBO isn't touching the back plate of the case and shorting out somehow.

Yeah my mate is bringing his rig down tomorrow so I can check it all then. It's a brand new PSU so the chances of it being the PSU is slim I would have thought. I took all the wires apart, even did the CPU again, put it all back together again and still the same problem, everything starts for 1second then turns off. I've taken out the battery for 1minute, put it back in. I've taken out the RAM with the battery and put 1 stick in each slot (with the battery in) and nothing. I'm running out of options, no idea what to do.

Hi Johngaz, I was wondering if you found the problem/solution to the issue as I have the same issue where it will power on for 1 second and then turn off. Thanks!
