Hi everyone,

I have my desktop which has definitely got near the end of its life and looking to upgrade a good chunk of it. It has been a long time since I built this but unfortunately with old graphics card prohibiting new games and processor bottle necking the whole thing I think it is time. Even browsing the web can be painful.
Current Parts (and get ready for a blast from the past):
  • CPU: Intel Core 2 Duo E6750
  • RAM: 2 * 4GB DDR2 @ 333MHz
  • Motherboard: Gigabyte P35C-DS3R
  • GPU: Nvidia GeForce 275 (< 1GB)
  • SSD: Samsung 830 120GB
  • HDD: 1TB + 2TB Seagate
  • Case: Corsair Graphite 600T Mesh
  • PSU: Corsair HX520W
Being realistic I think the only thing I can really save here is the case and SSD/HDD. The case should also give me a lot of room to build also.
The PSU has done me well but I am worried with the extra hardware that 520 watts won't cut it anymore. (Possibly I am wrong!)
Peripherals will be fine currently, I can always upgrade them later.

I was thinking around the £800 - £1000 mark and would be happy to build it myself.
I am quite fond of Intel and Nvidia. I started trying to look at bundles here however now there is such range seems a bit hard to figure out which suit my needs.

Thank you for any advice you have.

Amd Ryzen seems the way to go at the moment so i would lean towards that, gpu prices have shot up in price over the last few weaks.

The GTX 1060 is good for gaming at 1080p.

My basket at Overclockers UK:

Total: £803.56
(includes shipping: £11.70)

Thanks mickyflinn! That looks amazing!

Hadn't looked at Ryzen until now but looks great.

Just looking at this I am considering also adding water cooling. However unsure if this is overkill seeming as I am unlikely to need overclocking for quite a while. Anyone had any experience with the included wraith spire? Another option could be upgrading to water cooling when I actually start looking at overclocking :D

Also I am surprised 550W would be enough to run all of this but guess that components have got much more efficient since my last build ;) Is it worth upgrading from my Corsair 520W? It may be that your recommendation is much more reliable than my current one.

Thanks a lot for the advice!

Its up to you about which cooler to get but the wraith spire will do especially if not overclocking but is probably noiser under load.

As for your psu which is a good unit, it should still do the job but i would probably change it depending on age, etc.
