Hey guys,
I had this email from a mate and few days back:
I turned my computer on yesterday and on loading, it stopped at the bios page and had the following message: -
CMOS checksum error - Defaults loaded
However, it still allowed me to load up (after pressing F1) where I reset the date and time, when I restarted it, it loaded up fine as it also did 10 minutes later. But when I turned it on again today I had the same error message so changed date etc as well as synchronizing the time with windows as before. It is also making a strange noise when loading up.
I was thinking it could be the battery or something, but then I got this yesterday...
Now when trying to boot, the CMOS error comes up, then after pressing F1 it asks what mode I want to start windows, if I select safe mode it just gives me a list of different driver pathways. If I use start windows normally it then scans c:\ drive when that is completed it shuts down and restarts itself and goes through the same process again, I left it for about half an hour and it just kept doing this...
I have tried to log on to do a virus check and to run a registry fix program but as already said I can't find a way to boot up. I have been in BIOS and loaded 'load fail-safe default' but this done nothing to improve the situation?
I'm seeing him tonight and I want to go in prepared for the problem
Other than the battery, what else could it be? Motherboard, PSU etc?
I'll be honest this one has taken me by surprise - I don't really know where to start?
Has anyone got any ideas?
Cheers
SW.
