Hi all,

Im sure someone must have come by this issue before, but its new to me, I've assembled an old rig with spare parts, Athlon 64 3400+, Geforce 7800GS, 2GB RAM etc etc....

Ive tried with 2 PSU's and get the same issue, as soon as i flick the mains on all the fans power up and go crazy but theres no post or output from the computer its self.

Can anyone shead any light? Im guessing its fubar but im just curious as to whats actually wrong with it.

Thanks

Rob

Just out of interest and given the age of the machine, what happens if you disconnect the front panel power and reset switches and plug in?

Is the CPU definitely listed on manufacturers specs as compatible with the motherboard?

Yes, this rig has all been working previousley as a unit, its one I used to have a long time ago which ive put back together.

**update**

OK, I've cleared the CMOS which made no differance however ive taken the battery out of the motherboard which has stoped the fans going mental, i will re connect the front panel and see if it will post.

Ok, ive replaced the battery after 30 mins and re connected the front panel, all is quiet!

Press the power button on the computer and i get a short burst (2-5 seconds) of power then it goes dead again.

Possibly a static discharge? Ive never seen this issue before in almost 18 years of building systems!
