Heya,

When I start up my computer it gets up the XP loading section with the scrolling bars but when thats finished the screen goes into stand by.

The computer is deff booting further than that though because it signs my MSN in auto and signs out of my laptop when I turn it on.

Its only started doing it since today when I arrived home from a 9 day holiday, the monitor was unpluged during the holiday however the computer was not used at all.

So what is up with it? Is it the monitor or is it a problem with graphics card, or just something else?

Specs are in sig btw.

Any adivce is greatly apprechiated.

Thanks,

Dave

The only thing I've had happen like that is when I've been using both outputs on the vid card. If one of them (the one you are using) is disabled in your gfx control panel then when windows boots it will turn off that output.
Try booting up connected to your other output.

test it on another monitor is poss to rule out the monitor 100%

if its not your monitor then it could be any piece of hardware or possibly your software..

however first try your rig using a diff monitor...

This can happen sometimes when the monitor isn't being deteced properly by the graphics card or the monitor decides that the PC isn't giving it a signal so puts itself in standby.

Try unplugging both the monitor and PC at the wall. Then plug the monitor into the graphics card. Now plug in the monitor at the wall then the PC. Turn the PC on then the monitor.

Tryed that, exactly the same thing. Also, rigged it to the TV, when i do that it continues as normal but with a very bad image, black and white, crackly etc etc.

Tryed this aswell, no luck.

Graphics card is as old as comp, which I got on the 22 of march 2006, you can do the math.

I have only got a very old one which doesnt fit the comp so I cant test it, if I cant get it fixed my self ill get the shop to fix it as its still under warranty.

yep take it back and tell em whats happening....

I think its the gpu...

let us know how you get on...

goodluck...

FYI you can get very cheap PCIE cards from a well know auction sites which you can use when these like this happen but not fit for gaming or anything else...

I don't think it is the graphics card or monitor as he stated that the screen shows an image until windows is finished loading.

Have you tried booting into safe mode? It may be you need to reload your graphics drivers or at an extreme case reload windows. Have you tried booting the computer on a linux live CD? That would show if your problem is windows based or hardware based.

Ive booted it in safe mode and it has worked fine. But when I restart it goes back to the same problem.

Shall I boot into safe mode and try restoring a bit?
