I normally manage to work out what is causinga problem but in this case have not yet managed to work it out.

My computer keeps freezing up randomly

and i cant seem to put it down to any one thing where is the best place to start looking ?

it normally locks up except for the mouse then about 15 seconds later the mouse will also lock up and then after 30 - 60 seconds it acts normally again.

Thanks
James

what are you normally doing when it locks up?

Completely random up to this point.

Temp is fine
done a virus scan
services are the same services as has always been

this has only recently started happening.

Spyware? Often not picked up by a standard virus checker.

Any hard drive activity when it happens?
Any netork activity?
Any cpu activity?

is there a lot of hdd activity when this happens?

the hdd light flashing or on?

Cant tell if there is a lot of HDD activity as its so quiet and i never know which way to plug the hdd led into a mobo so just guess and the pump for my wc is in the way of my swapping it around.

always some cpu activity yes and always network activity.

I am constantly streaming either some form of music or video over the network and also msn

at a guess i would say the hdd is normally doing something as well

A bit hard to tell then. Basically you have constant hdd, network and cpu activity. I don't suppose you're running a Java application such as Limewire? They can sometimes cause pauses as they "garbage collect".
