Computer running very slow, confused.

My computer hardware wise is very good, upgraded several times. However it just runs so slow, I have a couple friends who have worse setups than me and their pc's run waaaaaay quicker than mine.

For example when I start the system up, it takes around 5 minutes to fully start up and I can use it. Tabbing out of games takes a long time sometimes and patching games takes long too, just generally the computer takes a long time to function.

Hardware isn't the issue and I have scanned my computer for viruses, what could be making my pc run so slow?

have a look and see how many programs you have starting when windows starts typing msconfig in the start menu

disable what you dont want starting with windows apply and ok

Run the Disk Clean up.
