my 4 years old current rig

processor=amd athlon 64 3200+(754 socket)
motherboard=msi 754 K8TM-ILSR
memory=512x2 ddr ram
hd=160x2 samsung ide
psu=seasonic 400 watt(its old about 4 years old)
graphics card=nvidia fx5200 256mb agp

its been 2 weeks now..since my computer messed up.

i went today to computer fair to buy a new PSU for it. went home installed the PSU connected all connectors. went to turn on the PC and still no power still going through. so im guessing that it wasnt my PSU in the first place.
so what can it be might it be the motherboard went or CPU. any suggestions would be helpful. cause im deciding to take it to the computer fair near me to get it fixed soon. so i would like to know before hand what i could be looking at to spend on fixing and how much it would cost me. i dont want to go over £150

i would ideally like to upgrade the heap of junk. but with all the new technology coming out such a dx10 cards,,ddr3 memory and the new refreshed CPU batch of core duo 2 with bearlake chipsets. i dont know what to do

If you've replaced the PSU and its still got no power, it must be the MB. If it was anything else like the CPU it would at least try to start.

thought so

yeah i thought it would have been the motherboard.
so your suggesting to buy a new motherboard and processor.

i just didnt want to go over £100 mark to resolve this and still have my previous peformance if not better

You could get an E6300 and the Asrock 775Dual-VSTA for £150 (or less) and use your current RAM and graphics card.

What do you mean by no power going through though? You mean the mobo light isn't on or what?

well

well i bought a new PSU thinking my existing one is dead. i fitted the new one and still no luck the computer doesnt power up. so therefore the motherboard must be dead.
