Computer science final year project idea expansion...

So I am interested in networks/ server stuff and was thinking of creating a network/ server environment on the packet tracer network simulator. Does anybody have any ideas as to how I could bulk this initial idea up first? I'm currently on my placement so I have until about October time to work out what I want to do.

Just some suggestions would be very helpful.

Don't universities usually give you a list of things you can do? Even if you have your own idea i've heard it's best to use one of those, as usually the university would own the rights to anything you submit.

Not at mine. We have the choice to decide for ourselves what to do.
