Is it just me or do the local computer shops lack a lot of the pro gear? I mean they usually have out of date stuff tbh. The rip off company we all know who is a joke, I have 2 others near me and they don't sell any keyboards like G15 or Saitek, or any Mice like Razer and Logitech, and don't sell any brand RAM, just default RAM with no name.

Only me?

(Oh yeah I do buy my stuff online like here etc but im just simply curious why they seem to be somewhat out of date, I mean OcUK get the latest stuff in asap, but computer shops seem to take like a year to get it in and charge weird prices.)

I think it's pretty much the same throughout the UK. Bar those that live near Huge E-Tailors such as OcUK.

Local shops are for the more general public, remember they account a fair amount more money than us enthusiasts.

I don't mind buying from the net at all, it's just postage prices bump up the cost a fair bit and you then have to wait. The biggest problem is dealing with RMA's. Some are flawless, many do come across some huge problems (speaking from experience).

No - you are right. The reason I guess is that "stuff" takes up a load of shelf space which is expensive. Considering how many lines OCUK stock you cannot expect that sort of choice in the high-street. Add in the need for experienced and knowledgable staff to explain the difference between 5600 and 6400 RAM (for example) and you suddenly have a very expensive shop. Which will not be able to compete with on-line companies...

5300/5400 :o ;)

A fair amount of popular E-Tailors such as OcUK allow for customers to pick up their stuff which is hell of a lot better for competative prices :)

The problem is, there isn't any decent shops from me unless I take an hour+ drive out of town!

Found that out myself when i was looking for a couple of rounded IDE cables, wen't to the local pc shop & the person in the shop did'nt even know what a round ide cable was
They just looked at me like i was daft...imagine asking for such a thing as a round cable

Most of them don't stock any high end stuff at all, suppose they don't have the demand though
