My computer seems to every now and then just freeze for a split second then work fine again, like if im moving my mouse pointer it will stop, or if im listening to music it will stick like a record sticking.. Any reason for this? could it even be hardware related?

thanks

It could be hardware related, maybe hdd failing. Could also be software, I've seen issue with AV causing similar freezing.
You need to give more info on this. List your system specs. How old is your system, if a new build it could be config, if old build it could be failing component. Have you installed something recently, hardware or software ? How often does this happen, every few minutes, every hour or so, ..... ?

Sorry, heres my full spec:

Intel Core2 Quad CPU Q6600 @ 2.40Ghz
4.0Gb RAM
NVIDIA GeForce 8800 GTS 512
SAMSUNG HD502HJ ATA 500Gb Hard Disk

MS Windows Vista Home Premium 64-bit SP1

The hard disk is about 1-2 years old cant remember and the rest of the parts are about 4 or 5 years old I think..

Check in event viewer

Look for disk errors

Broken hard drive makes the error you describe, or a dodgy CD/DVD in the DVD drive

Ok heres a screenshot of event viewer I have never used it before so dont really know what i need to be looking for :o

EDIT: Also the sticking happens if im watching a video on youtube etc

In that SUmmary window in the middle, expand the Errors and Warnings

Probably some 'Hard disk errors' in the Error window.

Ok expanding them seems to show a lot of errors from various sources mainly from "Servicing" "ESENT" and "MsiInstaller" there are a few various other ones too.. mean anything? (nothing i can see shows Hard disk errors tho)
