Computer STILL crashes on games such as CoD 4.

Hello,

I previously made a thread due to issues from my computer crashing on games such as Call of Duty 4 or Battlefield: Bad Company 2. I initially thought that these issues stemmed from the lack of power my PC was receiving from my previous PSU (450w) and other members of this forum had also suggested that it could be from the amount of dust that had accumulated on my PC (which I have cleaned out) and many other things. I can confirm that the factors with the Computer were not a result of these problems. I am now using a Corsair Builder Series CX 600W V2 '80 Plus' Power Supply. But I'd like to know why these problems still persist, while it does not occur for other games such as L.A. Noire or even the Assassins Creed series (as far as I'm aware of).

bad sectors, try run furmark, xtreme burn your gpu, see waetehr it crashes, could just be most demanding of your gpu lol. other suggestions would be dail down any over clocks, run memtest.ect
 
Havent fully read the other thread but could be the DirectX mode you run in? if the games support it try DX9 then 10 then 11 games I know bioshock supports 9 or 10 if you have it and alien VS Predators supports 10 or 11...

whats your temps on GPU and CPU? also run furmark or any stress test with monitoring software open (Anything to measure Volts) and post a screenshot of them as although unlikely could be a faulty PSU.

Remove ANY overclocks on your system to.

EDIT: PCWizard OR Everest should monitor volts & temps alright.
 
Like they said in the prev thread. I suspect the Realtek drivers lockup. I used to get this as well.
Do you get an annoying buzz or sound loop when it freezes ?
 
Big issues noted with Battlefield and Bad company and realtek drivers, (see the game forums) also some older Audigy cards there are numerous "help" tips over on the relevant forums.

What worked for me was lowering the windows bit rate.

I've not liked onboard cards for a long time now and the below would be a cheap option to try to fix it.

yes. the game freezes on the screen, then i hear an unusual sound repeating. so i have to restart my pc manually as a result.

I don't have any overclocks, and my gpu and cpu temperatures are about around 50-60. around 65 when gaming.
 
That's the one. Google sound loop or buzzing crash.
The only known cure is bunging in a cheap sound card. It's not guaranteed though. Again, googling the issue will show you everything.
 
How come it only happens with these games though? (if this is indeed the source of my issues)
And why does it happen after a while into the game?
 
Buzzing or sound looping occurs on many crashes while gaming. It's a bad idea to assume it's attributable to specific cause.
 
Indeed. Mine went away when I changed my GPU from a CF 5870 to a single 7970. Bam ! No more buzzing crashes.
 
well you could try just uninstalling your sound card in the control panel and uninstalling the drivers at the same time and see if the game still crashes. At least then that will tell you if a replacement sound might work or not.
 
I had an external Creative Sound Blaster lying around in the house from ages ago. Just connected it, uninstalled realtek and plugged my speakers on to the sound card. So far so good. I'll post again if these issues return because at the moment it's fine and I've played 3+ matches of Bad Company 2 without crashing.
